ABOUT THE PROJECT:

This project of early-works was originally circulated as a cassette, limited to 20 copies.
Recently, it was restored using modern audio restoration and preservation techniques.
This process involved digitizing material from 4-track, 3.5” floppy disc and one of the surviving tapes.

The title “Mood Algorithms” reflects the compositional process in which beats were created with inspiration from daily moods. The cover art, created by British designer Oliver Cartwright, illustrates the sequence of these moods which are represented by the array of vivid colors.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Los Angeles-Based Content (L)abelcontinues the Digital / Limited 7-Inch collection with a fascinating project from Copenhagen-based producer Son of a Bricklayer. Entitled “The Day The Sky Fell In”, this project is a multi-movement epic dealing with Dystopia. Narration is provided by acetate hiss ,hardware artifacts, and hardcore percussion.

The collapsing of the sky is signaled by the rolling snares heard on “Oscillations”. This hard-hitting tune featuring additional production from San Diego-based Tenshun (Skrapez). With “Delia’s Suite”, Bricklayer ( plus Epigon A.D.M) prove that even after broken umbrellas, shattered glass, and empty streets there is still hope.

Content (L)abel and Ooohh! Thats Heavy:

The “Wavelengths” 10″ is a sample-based interpretation of the four brainwave patterns (Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta) that our minds shift through daily.

The sound-scape begins with Los Angeles based producer Dday One‘s Between Poles.” The heaviness of the breaks represent the harsh reality of Beta, known as the waking state. With “Fall Forward,” we descend to Alpha, the wave of relaxation, but not quite meditation, the gateway to deeper states.

Through the process of manually manipulating subbass frequencies, staccato strings and Theremin tones, Glen Porter constructs the “Dream” This elusive and mysterious epic sits in the range of Theta, known as the twilight state of dreamlike imagery and long forgotten memories. At the point of regeneration, known as Delta, Porter moves beyond the depths of the subconscious and REM sleep with“Prehistoric Cowgirl”

The picture disc contains original still-life photography by Dday One inspired by the songs “Between Poles” and “Dream.” 180 gram vinyl, limited to 300 copies hand-numbered by the artists.

DDAY ONE | GLEN PORTER: WAVELENGTHS (CREATING THE DREAM-MACHINE) from Content (L)abel on Vimeo.

For the limited “Wavelengths” (Vinyl/Digital/Bundle) producer Glen Porter constructed the elusive and mysterious 11 min epic, “Dream”. This was done through the process of manually manipulating subbass frequencies, staccato strings and Theremin sounding tones.

<a href="http://shop.thecontentlabel.com/album/wavelengths">Dream (Theta) by Content (L)abel</a>

To visually represent Porter’s idea of a “Dream”, One side of the limited picture disc features a device called a dreamachine. This device was created in the in the early 60’s by Beat Generation artists Brion Gysin, William S. Burroughs and Ian Sommerville.

The cylindrical dreamachine is “viewed” with the eyes closed while it rotates on a turntable (45/78), the pulsating light stimulates the optical nerve and alters the brain’s electrical waves to an Alpha state. The “viewer” is said to then experiences patterns of light which morph to shapes.
