DDAY ONE | GLEN PORTER: WAVELENGTHS (CREATING THE DREAM-MACHINE) from Content (L)abel on Vimeo.

For the limited “Wavelengths” (Vinyl/Digital/Bundle) producer Glen Porter constructed the elusive and mysterious 11 min epic, “Dream”. This was done through the process of manually manipulating subbass frequencies, staccato strings and Theremin sounding tones.

To visually represent Porter’s idea of a “Dream”, One side of the limited picture disc features a device called a dreamachine. This device was created in the in the early 60’s by Beat Generation artists Brion Gysin, William S. Burroughs and Ian Sommerville.

The cylindrical dreamachine is “viewed” with the eyes closed while it rotates on a turntable (45/78), the pulsating light stimulates the optical nerve and alters the brain’s electrical waves to an Alpha state. The “viewer” is said to then experiences patterns of light which morph to shapes.
